Spring is the season of revival in nature, making it the perfect time to go out, socialize, and discover art! In this blog post, we will share current exhibitions and workshop suggestions that you can attend. Additionally, we will inform you about the Pavilion of Turkey at the 18th International Venice Architecture Biennale.

1- Istanbul Modern: "Renzo Piano: Genius Loci"
The new building of Istanbul Modern, Turkey's first modern and contemporary art museum, has opened to the public! This is the moment everyone has been waiting for. Designed by world-famous architect Renzo Piano, Istanbul Modern welcomed art lovers on May 4, 2023.

The museum has a wide variety of exhibits. One of them, "Renzo Piano: Genius Loci," focuses on the works and architectural understanding of Renzo Piano, the architect of the unique building. The exhibition provides remarkable details. It's also possible to observe the changes that Istanbul Modern has undergone since 2004.

2- Pera Museum: "Istanbuls Today"
The exhibition, currently open to visitors until September 17, focuses on the loneliness, emptiness, and eerie incongruity of Istanbul. It features the works of 11 photographers living in Istanbul, which have not been previously published. While "Istanbuls Today" showcases the changes the city has undergone in the last ten years, the writings of 7 academics who have worked on the artifacts also contribute to the exhibition.

In addition to its current exhibition program, Pera Museum organizes learning programs and workshops. Among the current workshops and programs, which are arranged for different age groups, "Amulet Design" is special for young people. For ‘The Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day’: "Exploring Movement in Clay Sculptures" is offered, while "Miniature Museum Design" is geared towards children.

3- Sakıp Sabancı Museum: "Agnes Denes. The Living Pyramid"
The Sakıp Sabancı Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of the ecological works of art by Agnes Denes. The work, which was first exhibited in New York in 2015 and then in Kassel in 2017, was specifically built for the museum's garden. The process started with the planting of plants on September 10-11, 2022, and today it continues with the growth and greening of those plants. The work, which is part of the permanent collection at the SSM garden, is available for visitation until September 13, 2023.

4- Arter: "I Sometimes Imagine I’m a Fish with Legs"
Arter, a museum that covers all disciplines of art, brings the dynamics of art to Istanbulites with four exhibitions. Eva Koťátková is an artist who explores the structure of individuals in society and the roles they assume. Her solo exhibition, "I Sometimes Imagine I’m a Fish with Legs", is currently on view at Arter until August 27. The exhibition features works that encourage visitors to imagine the body as a whole.

Arter is organizing the "Outside the Lines of Reality" event, which is free to attend, in parallel with the "I Sometimes Imagine I’m a Fish with Legs" exhibition. The event will take place on May 25 and will be hosted by Eda Berkmen. Curator, writer, and academician Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu will bring together different artists to discuss their art practices, different playgrounds, safe spaces, and suggestions for living together.

5- Venice Biennale 18th International Architecture Festival: “Ghost Stories: The Carrier Bag Theory of Architecture”
The Venice Architecture Biennale, held every other year, exhibits the best examples of architectural work from different countries around the world. The 18th edition is set to take place this year. The curators of the Turkish Pavilion, coordinated by İKSV, are the founding partners of SO?, Sevince Bayrak and Oral Göktaş. The exhibition at the Turkish Pavilion will feature the work "Ghost Stories: The Carrier Bag Theory of Architecture," which focuses on unused and abandoned buildings and was selected through an open call. SO? has become known for its innovative ideas and has delivered various architectural projects, designs, and exemplary works. The details of the work are shared in a press video published on their website. The exhibition will be open to visitors from May 20 to November 26, 2023.
