Bees, after cattle and pigs, are the third creature that humans benefit most. Not only by producing honey, but also by pollination while producing honey is a key point for the ecosystem. Consisting of designers who set out with the aim of designing stylish and beautiful products that will contribute to natural life, “Green&Blue”, knowing the value of bees in natural life, designed bricks that allow bees to be home.
Developed by the eco-friendly design office Green&Blue, “Bee Brick®” has been designed to help the declining bee population. With the specially designed perforated structure of the brick, areas, where only bees can live, are created.
Bee bricks can be produced in different sizes and colours. It can be said that these bricks, which can be used in buildings with dimensions compatible with garden walls or residential walls, will add value to the structural design.
Application Advice
As a usage area, it is recommended to place the “Bee Brick®” brick in a warm and sunny place facing south, at a minimum 1 m height from the ground, where there are no plants that will prevent the entrance of bees and that will not block the holes.
Environmentalist Building Element, Bee Bricks
The size of the bee bricks makes it easy to integrate them into the buildings, as they are no different from the brick sizes we use in the buildings. Bricks produced by using recycled clay to make concrete have a geometry with a perforated entrance that can be covered with mud and various vegetation.
The area where the brick walls are placed creates suitable nesting places for the bees. Moreover, it turns into a beautiful design tool that reflects the environmental sensitivity of the environment and animal-friendly people.
Considering the importance of bees to the world and the source of the food we consume, we will need this and similar design solutions to compensate for the loss of natural space caused by the climate crisis and uncontrolled urbanization. By using bee bricks and similar building elements more with designs and solutions that raise awareness, we can create beneficial differences for the ecosystem.
