The World's First Leed Platinum Certified Hospital: Memorial Bahçelievler
Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital, which is the first full-fledged hospital structure in the world to be awarded the LEED Platinum certificate with a new understanding in the health sector, performs its services in the health sector on the principle of respect for people and nature. Designed with a language appropriate to contemporary architecture, the hospital has contributed to human health as well as environmental health with its sustainable approaches at the design stage. Memorial Bahçelievler has a total area of 72.000 m2 and a green area of 8.000 m2.
Brand New Conception in the Health Sector
Memorial Bahçelievler offers a comfortable environment for patients and their relatives during the recovery process with its equipment with superior features in terms of technological equipment, specialized academic staff, and medical staff.
The main design principle of the hospital, which is
accessible by entering the E-5 highway, which is the heart of Istanbul's
transportation line, is to construct the project with green areas that get away
from the chaos of the city by making maximum use of sunlight.Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital is designed to serve the
needs of users in every area from lobby areas to polyclinic departments, from
patient bedrooms to departments for doctors and healthcare professionals. It
also provides priority services to its patients for the treatment process and
surgical operations.
Leed Platinum Certified Green Hospital Concept
Memorial Bahçelievler, which has won the “LEED Platinum”
green building certificate in energy and environmentally friendly design, has
become the first hospital in the health sector to receive the certificate among
fully equipped hospitals in the world and Turkey.
A Hospital as a Biophilic Design and Application Area
Considering the architectural mass formation scheme, the project was shaped in the light of principles such as transportation analysis, environmental data, sunlight, wind, landscape orientation. Patient rooms are located concerning daylight and landscape orientations. In the mass formed by connecting the four parts, it is positioned on the arms of the main part to keep the patient rooms away from the noise.
Art Is For Health!
Contrary to the usual health buildings, the installation area that welcomes visitors to the hospital when they enter the lobby has created a warm atmosphere. The installation designed by PIN Architects includes green as well as artistic objects.
Considering that the hospital lighting design structure lives 24 hours a day, the patient-doctor relationship and patient accommodation times have been created with precision by considering.
In the architecture of the hospital, the effect of nature on
the healing process of patients with floor terraces has been applied like
therapy. Plants that exhibit colour transitions and special changes to patients
every season have a positive effect on the healing process of patients.
It is aimed to create a positive effect on patients by transporting the biorhythm of nature to the hospital with landscape areas where seasonal transitions and color changes are felt, the wind is observed in the release of plants. With the ecological approach to plant selection, wheat plants, reed plants, foraged trees, and endemic plant species were included in the plant selection; it was planned that these plants would create resources for the natural life and birds in the region.
It is aimed to contribute to the environment in terms of the energy efficiency of the hospital. For this, energy consumption has been reduced and environmentally friendly and recyclable resources have been preferred. The selected equipment has also been a pioneer for other organizations in this field with the savings plans implemented. The fact that the building is on the main transportation points and the public transportation line shows the importance given to its transportation by bicycle and pedestrian. It has been tried to provide transportation to the hospital by public transport instead of a personal vehicle for outpatient entrance, thus goals such as reducing solid fuel consumption have been established. The project was created by paying attention to the application of recycling at every stage from design to construction, from operation to equipment.
Following the organized work done, Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital has been acquired into the health sector as a full-fledged hospital structure that can meet all the needs of all its employees and guests in every sense.
